Thank you

I would like to thank you all for your support over the last few months. We lost tonight but we definitely made gains. Four years ago the margin of victory was over 4000 votes. Tonight we lost by 1500 votes. I would like to thank my family especially Lisa and Olivia for the sacrifices since June. Also thanks to all those that contributed time, money and resources to my campaign. I still plan on working hard for the people of Brighton.

Sincerely,
David

Candidate questions‏

Hello everyone. I just wanted to share with you a questionnaire I had to answer for the Brighton Pittsford Post.

David

1. Does the Rochester Broadway Theater League's new performing arts center belong in Brighton?
Brighton would be a perfect town to host the PAC. I could not think of a better town that would embrace and cultivate an art center.
2. How do you feel about the Anthony J. Costello & Son projects such as The Reserve and the Clinton Crossings Lifestyle Center?
These projects are sorely needed and should begin as soon as possible. Anthony J. Costello & Son is a locally owned company with ties to the community. I am quite sure that every possible means to develop responsibly will be met. Also, in the current economic environment, we should not miss out on opportunities that will add to our tax base, and potentially lessen the tax burden on homeowners. From my understanding, these projects would not only add to the Town tax base, but Brighton Schools would also benefit from tax dollars received from the commercial properties. These are dollars that are collected without an increase in student population. This could provide much needed tax relief to home owners in the BCSD as well.
3. How does the town need to adjust to the current economic climate?
The current Budget for 2010 has pay increases for elected officials, while many of our fellow citizens have experienced job loss and pay cuts. In times like these, we need an Administration that has awareness about the current economic downturn and its effect on its citizens. We also need an Administration that will work with local business leaders to cultivate current businesses, and attract new ones to ease the tax burden on the citizens. Brighton has a rich history of being a center of entrepreneurship and small business ownership and we must see that return to our community!
4) Why are you passionate about being a town board member?
My journey began when I went to the board with concerns about traffic in my neighborhood, where my 3 year old and her friends play, and my concerns fell upon deaf ears. I believe that we can do better than that! We're a resourceful community full of Brilliant people, and I am believe that we can thrive as a community by engaging the citizens. There needs to Bipartisan representation in all forms of government. When there is one party control, regardless of which party it is, portions of the community can become disenfranchised and feel as if they have no voice.
5. If you are elected to the town board what will be your top priority?
We must have sound, sustainable development of the Monroe Ave corridor and the Canal front. This will make us a stronger community; one that can weather economic downturns and still provide the same level of service for its towns people.

2010 Proposed Budget for Town of Brighton

The town of Brighton released the purposed budget for 2010. Here are just a few items of interest:

*2.1% increase over last year

* 20% increase in the cost of benefits to Town employees (It went up 20% last year as well)

* All contracted employees received pay increases as per contract agreement

And last but not least, All elected officials and most appointed, non union positions will receive a 1.5 % pay increase.

Things to consider to reduce spending:

A) Shopping around for a better benefit rates for Town employees especially after it went up 20% last year;

B) Working to renegotiate contracts as is being done around the country in order to keep spending to a bare minimum;

c) Not appropriating a pay increase when so many in the town are not getting a cost of living increase, taking pay cuts to keep their job, and losing their jobs.

Our seniors may be hit especially hard considering close to seven million -- one in every seven -- will receive a smaller Social Security check next year, according to a new analysis by The Senior Citizens League (TSCL).

We need a Government that is more connected to the day to day life of the people of Brighton and understands the impact of how increased spending affects households

We need fresh new voices, not the status quo!

Subject: Letter of recommendation

Dave, please have this printed in any election material or newspaper that helps you get elected. Good Luck, hopefully I can come up and help you out.

I have worked alongside David Rizzo for the last four years and can attest to his dedication and commitment to his work duties and his profession. I believe he will bring these qualities to the position of Councilman and serve the people of Brighton with the highest standards. David’s ability to work with diverse groups on various projects has seen him complete many projects successfully, both in time and cost reduction.

David has shared many of his thoughts and ideas with me in regards to his vision of a “Brighter Brighton”. He will work hard for the people of Brighton to reign in spending so that hard working families and those on a fixed income can have some relief in these difficult economic times. He will work to cultivate small businesses in order to bring life back into the empty store fronts in your community.

David’s number one desire above these is bring a sense of balance to Town Government and to empower all the people of Brighton to work together, despite political party, so that you have a thriving, vibrant community for all to enjoy.

For these reasons I officially endorse David Rizzo’s candidacy for Town Council.

Sincerely,

Charles Mallow - Democrat

Batavia City Council President

Former Chairman of the Genesee County Democratic Committee

We can all contribute to a Brighter Brighton

My name is David Rizzo and I am running for Town Council in Brighton, New York.

My family and I have met many wonderful people while living in the Town of Brighton. The people are truly the spirit of this community. That spirit shows when neighbors greet each other on the street, or merchants take the time to welcome their patrons as if they were family. From the quaint streets, to the bustle of the Twelve Corners, to the beauty of our parks, Brighton has many things to offer its residents. There is one exception to that, our local government. As a resident of the Town of Brighton I have seen how career politicians offer a very partisan atmosphere to the community of Brighton, few are heard, and empowering this town so that all voices are heard will be my number one goal.

I am running for the following reasons:

To bring balance and bipartisanship to single party rule that has produced bloated budgets and administrative mismanagement.

Bring a voice of fiscal responsibility to the town government in order to lower the tax burden on its citizens.

To usher in transparency in the way government interacts with the people of the town.

To stimulate and grow the local economy that has seen many storefronts become vacant due to high taxes and draconian building codes.

To provide responsible governance for all citizens of Brighton, not just special interest groups that are aligned with the current administration.

It is my belief that a local Government should be the last line of defense against excessive taxes and poor performance that we see at the Federal and State level. Our current career politicians do not provide that defense; I intend to with fresh new ideas from the perspective of a working family.

I greatly appreciate you taking the time visit my site.

Sincerely,

David Rizzo
